Restoring St. Andrew's

St. Andrew's Church, like all the other churches in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, has recently had it's
5 yearly structural inspection. This has highlighted several areas which need attention.

The Organ

St. Andrew's organ was installed, 2nd hand, in 1886 and was made by Taylor's of Leicester, and was thought to be
unplayable due to some of the keys not working. However after an examination by organ restorers Julian Paul and Son
of Lincoln, it was found that the organ was not in such a bad state after all and a day's work would at least get it playable again.
This has now been carried out, but a full scale restoration will cost almost £10,000

Here are some pictures taken during the work.

The Building

The 5 yearly report highlighted several areas in need of attention.

The Roof

Many tiles have slipped or broken resulting in rain leaking through the roof.

Estimated cost £6,000

Stonework

Work needs to be carried out on the some of the stonework around the building.

Estimated cost £15,000

Plastering

The report recommends that the plaster on the west wall be removed, the wall allowed to dry, and then replastered

Estimated cost £4,200

Drainage

The report recomended that the drainage around the church be repaired, as it was felt that the damp was rising up the walls from the ground
resulting in the problems with the plastering.

Estimated cost £5,000

The total cost of restoring the church is just over £40,000

Any donations would be very much appreciated.
